Thank you to all who joined us and made the 2017 Baseball Extravaganza so successful! Our gratitude goes out to Hunter Greene with the Cleveland Indians, 2017 #2 overall MLB draft pick and Eddie Muhl, 2017 Pittsburg Pirates draftee, who helped out with juniors' clinic.
Hunter's inspirational talk with the players as well as lots of signed baseballs made the day extra special!
The fabulous Marines Memorial Stadium was home to the second annual Thrive in Joy Nick Fagnano Foundation Baseball Extravaganza!
JUNOR PLAYERS (ages 7-13 years-old) participated in a 2-hour skills clinic with Notre Dame High School baseball coaches led by head JV Coach, Brian Milone. Players were grouped by skill level for pitching, hitting, running, fielding and mental strategy training.
SOFTBALL PLAYERS ages (16-60+), with or without experience, played in a friendly co-ed softball game.
- BASEBALL PLAYERS (open to all current or former varsity high school players) played in a friendly but competitive baseball game that finished under the stadium lights.
Over the past 25 years, Head Coach Tom Dill has led the Knights to multiple championships with numerous players going on to the major leagues including Giancarlo Stanton, Brendan Ryan, Chris Dickerson, Brett Hayes, Tim Foli and Cy Young Award winner, Jack McDowell. This year, all eyes are on top MLB high-school draft prospect, Notre Dame senior, Hunter Greene, who made the cover of the May 1st Sports Illustrated.
Notre Dame High School's Marine Memorial Stadium was hailed by Baseball America as a "state-of-the-art" facility and even Sports Illustrated mentioned the exceptional amenities of the stadium including the gourmet concession stand which has earned the reputation of serving the best food in high school baseball (according to the LA Daily News).
With 350 stadium seats, bleachers along the baselines and an astroturf lawn areas above the the dugouts--perfect for folding chairs-- fans have the ideal setting to take in, or participate in, a day of play and relaxation at the ballpark!
AN INTERACTIVE BASEBALL EVENT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!
ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE TJNFF BASEBALL EXTRAVAGANZA WILL BENEFIT THE PROGRAMS SUPPORTED BY THE THRIVE IN JOY NICK FAGNANO FOUNDATION founded in memory of Nick Fagnano (NDHS '12) who lost his life on July 27th, 2014, in a rare and unexpected lightning strike at Venice Beach, CA.
The foundation; started by Nick's parents, Mary and Jay, supports programs that serve vulnerable children in the Dominican Republic at Tia Tatiana School and the Remar Orphanage--both in Santo Domingo. The Foundation also supports the Los Angeles Chapter of the Jefferson Awards Students in Action Community Service Program, the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy Nick Fagnano Memorial Scholarship, the Notre Dame High School Senior Baseball Player Award for Outstanding Character, and the St. Brendan Grade School Graduation Award for Outstanding Character. All causes align with the foundation's mission of encouraging and rewarding character through education and recreation.
Nick's love of baseball was a source of joy for time spent with friends and building a network of families all the way from Little League through Notre Dame High School and on to Santa Barbara City College. Nick continues to bring friends and families together through the TJNFF Baseball Extravaganza. Scheduled on the Saturday of Father's Day weekend, the event also celebrates the bond between fathers and their children. To learn more about how Nick's legacy has impacted so many lives, click HERE.
